Why: I go the following email about this benefit screening, and think it’s a special opportunity to support important local programming and enjoy a local film featuring local leaders. The beneficiary of the event – La Clinica Del Pueblo – does good work.

From the email:

The movie The Other City (a documentary about HIV in Washington DC featuring 5 people living with HIV – I am one of them!) will be playing at E street cinema for one week beginning Monday September 20th. E Street Cinema has allowed Mpoderate! to sell the tickets and use the money to benefit its program and raise awareness for HIV prevention in the LGBTQ latin@ community in DC. The money will be used towards furthering our youth’s education through English, GED, specialized classes and materials. We would really appreciate you guys coming out and supporting the program and the movie. Let me know if you want a ticket and I will bring it to you this week or you can stop by the Youth Center (3055 Mt Pleasant St NW) anytime this week. Tickets bought in advance are 10 dollars and are 15 dollars at the door bought the night of the show. After the movie there will be a panel discussion with the director, myself, and two Mpoderate youth. I hope you will join us for this special event.

Date: Monday Sept 20th

Time: 7:00pm showing

Where: E street cinema
